Weight Loss

Maintaining a healthy weight can impact the quality of life in many ways. There are multiple approaches to managing weight. Regardless of the program chosen, one of the major influences that impact the success or failure of weight management issues is thought process. How we feel about ourselves and the internal messages we give ourselves every day have a direct relationship to the choices we make.  Whether you choose a weight loss program of special foods, supplements, or exercise, getting to the heart of what promotes and sustains unhealthy weight can be explored and resolved in counseling.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a process that helps connect thoughts, feelings, and actions.  When people experience a change in their mood (to the negative) and/or choose behaviors that are not helpful, the cardinal question is "What was going through my mind?" When that question is asked, unidentified thoughts and feelings can emerge that bring clarity to the thought process that can hinder success. Behaviors say more about what a person wants out of life than what they say.  If I say I want to lose weight while eating a cupcake, what is my true desire?

In counseling services you can explore various options for managing your weight (program pros and cons), determine realistic goals, develop a plan, and obtain support of behavior change.
